about me

hello, i'm ferox!
i'm a technology enthusiast with a particular passion for decentralized and self-hosted services. i'm of the belief that gaining computer skills are an important part of owning a computing device & i'm slowly but surely working on educational content to help make that learning easier.

about this website

this is my main online platform. while i do maintain accounts on some social media platforms, my "personal" accounts are all treated largely as read-only.

why a website?

the usual "old internet was better" rant is best given by those that have been here longer than i have. i was only there for the final few years as social media took over the role of "the internet" for most. however, i've grown less and less content with the state of things - grifters have been pushing both entertainment and potentially life-saving information out of the spotlight to run their get-rich-quick schemes. trolls, morons, and LLMs (which have been causing mayhem for a lot longer than you think) have completely taken over everywhere humans used to have discussions online. advertisers built tracking networks so vast they put every historical surveilance state to shame, and the next generation have started to take notice & take over. out there, your individuality only serves to sell you things & make sure you aren't a problem for whatever government you'll find yourself at the mercy of in the future.

make no mistake: there is nothing left for you or i on the modern internet. the age of facebook just "being where your friends are" is long gone.

this is why i have a website, it's why you should have a website if you want to express yourself to real humans (trust me, there are plenty on the "indie web"), and it's why you should at least be willing to consider the more personal side of the web (either for yourself or for your friends) as a solution if you ever get tired of the cesspit that is the modern internet.

why does it look broken/incomplete?

there's a good chance i'm working on it while you're reading! i edit the live code directly. nothing of extraordinary value lives here and nobody is hurt when things go wrong.
