this page originally was going to hold a long-winded rant about how "single-purpose devices just did everything better than smartphones", but to be honest,
that just isn't true. smartphones are fucking fantastic at so many things! unfortunately, what they do best is build your reliance on them.
every so often, i ditch the modern phone in favor of a dumbphone, ipod, and camera; i always come out of it improved in some way. i waste less of my life bothering with social media, short-form content especially. i learn to appreciate the music i listen to more, so much so that i've put a meaningful investment into a full listening station just so i can get that little bit closer to it. i stop worrying so much about "perfectly capturing the moment" and focus on capturing vibes - my little point and shoot, after all, is quite shit. i've even regained the ancient skill of reading maps and navigating independently!
