"i've got nothing to hide"
back home
everyone that can track you, does. it's been an open secret for over a decade that governments have been spying on citizens, and advertising
networks and data brokers have discovered just how profitable the whole spying thing can be.
the various "nothing to hide" arguments are horribly outdated and will hurt people. it doesn't matter if you're a model citizen in the eyes of [insert current regime] and it doesn't matter if you're willing to become one for [next regime]. the technology exists right now to capture, filter, and catalogue the speech and behavior of billions of people simultaneously. artificial intelligence has eliminated the need for humans to go through footage, recordings, and text. petabytes of storage take up almost no space now - for context, that's about 30 million minutes of high resolution (1080p, about 2mbps) video, 1.25 billion minutes of audio (48kbps), or 900000 bibles worth of text (about 4mb each). you can probably fit about 4 of those on a rack - of which you can fit thousands in a large data center.
if you think data brokers will even think twice about selling your data to those that want you to disappear, i've got news for you, and whether or not you have anything to hide from your government: if you think that anyone's going to destroy that information when that government is replaced, you're out of your fucking mind.
it is never a bad idea to limit your exposure. it is impossible for you to tell right now whether or not you're going to be illegal in the future. stay quiet, stay free.
